Twente sold Wilkshire to Dinamo Moscow for 2.2 million euros and are ready to spend the newly-raised funds on signing a replacement. Vitesse defender Paul Verhaegh is the main candidate, but NAC player Ronnie Stam is also being linked to the Enschede side.
Verhaegh was linked with Dutch giants Ajax last winter, but the Amsterdam side eventually opted to sign Bruno Silva from Groningen. He recently renewed his deal at the Arnhem side until 2010.
Vitesse are keen to hold on to their player, but are not in the financial position to refuse an offer too good to turn down.
“Twente contacted us about Verhaegh, but we want to hold on to our important players,” stated Arnhem director Van Der Kraan. “However, we are willing to talk about the situation after the season’s opener against Groningen.”
Meanwhile, Verhaegh is interested in moving to the Tukkers. “They’re a nice club and they play European football. However, it’s not up to me yet. I want the teams to reach an agreement first,” he said |
