Diego Capel was one of the many highly sought after players during the summer transfer market and after coming close to losing their star winger, Sevilla are moving hastily to convince the player to sign a contract extension.
After weeks of negotiations, Capel has yet to reach an agreement with the Andalucian outfit. And now, questions have been raised about whether or not the 20 year old is being put under duress by the club board to ink his new contract, one that would increase his buy-out clause from a measly €16 million to a much more significant amount.
According to Catalan daily Sport, rumours have surfaced that the left-winger was threatened to be benched if he did not sign on the dotted line. Last Sunday’s game against Racing Santander, where the winger only started from the bench, seem to have spurred those speculations.
Blanquirrojo sporting director Monchi has assured that coach Manolo Jiménez’s decision to exclude the player from the starting XI has nothing to do with the ongoing contract talks.
The initial rumour was that Capel only started from the bench against Racing Santander, with the hope of not having to use him, because the club did not him to sustain any injuries in case he is to be sold before the transfer deadline. |
