The former Barcelona and AEK Athens player was unveiled in a press conference at Tashkent on Thursday. And Rivaldo revealed to reporters when Kuruvchi approached him, the 36-year-old knew he wanted to join the club.
"I had a contract with AEK Athens, but my contract was coming to an end and I was invited by clubs from Australia and Japan," Rivaldo told the club's official website.
"At the same time I got a serious offer from Uzbekistan which I accepted. I am glad I decided to accept the offer. The club has given me this chance and I would like to repay them by showing the fans what I can do.”
Rivaldo has set his sights on winning the AFC Champions League, having won two La Liga trophies with Barcelona and was voted World Player of the Year and European Footballer of the Year in 1999.
"I want to help my new team in the Champions League. The club made a serious offer and now I will try and show my worth and make as much effort I can to help them be successful," he added.
While there were initial concerns about his age, Kuruvchi general director Tavakkal Kadirovich insisted there is plenty of ability left in the veteran midfielder. He pointed out that Rivaldo netted 12 times in 35 games for AEK and 90 goals in 160 matches for Barcelona.
“God will give it to us this year,” Kadirovich told reporters, saying that Rivaldo will lead Kuruvchi to continental glory in the AFC Champions League.
Kuruvchi will play Iranian side Saipa in the first leg of their quarter-final match on September 17.
