A crunching tackle from Bordeaux winger Wendel (pictured) on Nantes’ Djamel Abdoun has left the 22 year-old midfielder expecting to be absent from first-team action for between four and six weeks with a fractured fibula. Referee Bré elected to not take any action against the Brazilian, leaving the former Ajaccio man furious.
“It started with an indirect free-kick inside the box,” Abdoun recounted to Football365 earlier today, “N’Daw hit it and it was blocked by a hand - we should have had a penalty. The ball arrived to me at the right side of the pitch with my back to goal. I tried to hook my run round but then came the tackle from behind from Wendel that took me out.”
Abdoun described the Brazilian’s tackle as “malicious” and remains frustrated at the match official and Wendel, who, he maintains, should be banned. “The referee came to see me in the changing rooms afterwards to tell me that he had made an error,” Abdoun bemoaned, “I am injured for at least four weeks, I would like some kind of sanction.
“The League must re-examine the video and make a decision. Even if he played the ball he injured me because his tackle was malicious. He has deprived me of one month of football as I will be in plaster for four weeks. I just wish that he would be suspended.”
The big talking point in Nantes, despite Abdoun’s personal concerns, remains the future of head coach Michel der Zakarian, however, the midfielder has “no idea” what is in store for the Nantes boss in the coming days.
